Some interesting social media news tidbits:
1. Last week Kellogg (the giant cereal and food company) announced they are tripling their social media budget for this year.
2. Old Spice launched a new campaign, “I’m on a Horse,” (type that in on YouTube, and watch “Old Spice – The Man Your Man Could Smell Like.” It’s been viewed over 3 million times in 3 weeks!) that is gaining huge attention, both for the uniqueness of the ad but also for the gigantic number of times it has been viewed online in such a short time.
3. Did you know that YouTube is now the second most used search engine on the web, behind only Google (which owns YouTube!).
4. Did you know that the cyclist and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong has more Twitter followers than the entire current circulation of the NY Times?
Here is a great resource for news and information about social media which I found to be very interesting and provides excellent information and social media marketing strategies. See http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/. You can register for their email newsletter, which I highly recommend.
