In my twenty + years as a technology business consultant, this is EXACTLY what happens. And it can further be broken down in to those businesses that are founded and run by engineers, and those businesses that are founded and run by sales and marketing professionals. I have found that when a CEO or founder is in denial about their own weaknesses or insecurities, it can endanger the future existence of that company.
